Sea Trip

• Angthong National Marine Park
  
  Don’t leave Samui without taking the opportunity to visit the beautiful Angthong National Marine Park. This environmentally protected reserve comprises 42 islands and lies just 1 hour away by speedboat. The tour includes snorkeling at the northern most island called Koh Wao where the water is deeper and clearer than it is within the reserve affording you the opportunity to view the abundant corals and aquatic life.
  
  You’ll then head into the centre of the Marine Park where you’ll venture off on kayaks for a guided one hour tour of exploration along the coastline of Angthong’s largest island Koh Wua-Ta-Lap. You’ll steer your way under rock overhangs and into shallow caves washing up for a short rest on one of the many idyllic and deserted beaches.
  
  After a tasty lunch you’ll be off to visit the famous Emerald Lake - a stunning landlocked salt water lake separated from the sea by sheer limestone cliffs.   The pink dolphins found in the waters around Koh Samui and the nearby coast of the mainland is a subspecies of the Indo- Pacific Humpback Dolphin . They are robust dolphins, adults grow to a maximum of 2.8 meters and weigh up to 280 kegs. Colorations varies from brown-grey, pale grey or pink-white on their upper sides and lighter underside with grey speckles.
  
  Newborn dolphins ( about 1 meter long ) are normally grey changing to white or pink with grey spots as a juvenile (2 meters long) and white or pink as adults (2.8 meters long).
  
  Traveling in groups of 3-7 they prefer shallow coastal waters and feed on shoaling fish. They take their color from the presence of blood vessels near the skin which are used to control their body temperature. These dolphins are endangered mainly because of water pollution and entanglement

  The History of the Boat
  Originally constructed with beautiful teak wood, The Junk Chantara was put into service in Burma near the end of the 20th century.
  First sailed from the magnificent Burmese Banks, the former owner decided to move after the Tsunami of 2004. The Chantara sailed to the South, via Singapore, then up the east coast of Malaysia to enter in the Gulf of Thailand.
  
  Since its renovation, the boat was called “Fortune”, but has since changed its name again in October 2009 to take on its Thai name, “Chantara”.
  
  Presently, The Chantara is based in Bangrak Bay, Koh Samui, in the north of the island.
  
  The Chantara sails inside the Gulf of Thailand. Generally, it travels around Koh Samui, to places such as Angthong Marine Park, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao.

  Ang Thong National Marine Park translates as 'golden bowl', occupies almost 250 sq. km and includes 50 sq. km of protected nature area consisting of over 40 islands. All of the islands are uninhabited and undeveloped except for one. This island, Koh Paluay, is inhabited by "sea-gypsies" who still earn a living from fishing. The island looks like what Koh Samui used to look like 40 years ago, prior to the arrival of tourism and modern infrastructure.   Snorkeling tour to Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yuan Koh Tao, or Turtle Island, is a beautiful island just 21km², 70km north of Koh Samui and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes by speed boat, the fastest and most comfortable way to get there.
  
  Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yuan feature a wide range of shallow sites suitable for both snorkeling and scuba diving, with beautiful soft and hard coral, clear water and a wide diversity of marine life.
  
  It is because of Koh Tao’s position away from the mainland and being surrounded by a deeper sea bed that it sees the best visibility found in the Gulf of Thailand.
  
  To ensure you get the best water conditions available, we snorkel different parts of Koh Tao at different times of the year because of tide changes. Typically we visit the western and southern sides of Koh Tao during October to March, which features Koh Tao’s longest and most beautiful beach, Sairee.
